Let Us Not Forget Our Brother’s Pastor Saeed Abedini & Kenneth Bae

Great story follows from ‘Voice of the Persecuted’ about two Christian Pastors who are imprisoned today for their faith. Like many, we are very pleased that President Obama mentioned the names of both Saeed Abedini, held in Iran, and Kenneth Bae, held in North Korea, at last week’s National Prayer Breakfast. That’s a good start. What needs to follow is consistent hard-nosed diplomacy – not just pleasant words delivered on the home-front. It is not an easy task to compel Iran, which is driven by religious fanaticism, to act consistenly with international norms. In fact they rather seem to enjoy provoking America at every occasion. This was especially true at the February 1-11 Anniversary Celebrations for the Islamic Revolution. I can’t speak for other faiths, but Christians are commanded to pray FOR their enemies, that they would be blessed, as well as FOR their own national leaders to have wisdom and act in accord with God’s own plans. God says, vengeance is Mine! We are to pray.

Pastor Saeed’s wife, and Kenneth Bae’s family were jubilant about the acknowledgement from the president and rightly so, but we remain cautiously optimistic. We believe God is working through both men to bring light into the darkness they are currently in. And pray for their families who are and have been inspirations to many Christians and non-believers alike. There also is evidence that Pastor Saeed has brought the Gospel to new believers in prison, when they may have never had an opportunity to hear the Word. God has a plan and is in control in the lives of these faithful men and their families.
